The Kayak Shack was originally run by the students of the entrepreneurship class offered at Waldport High school along with the help of a business professor at Oregon Coast Community College. When the class was no longer offered at Waldport High school, the business and marketing class took it over. It had first opened up in 2005 and has moved locations several times. Currently we are located at 365-B Port street.
With great community support from
people such as those from the Friends of The Kayak Shack, and our
advisor Brian Gardner, the Shack has been able to grow and mature. With
the skills Mr. Gardner has taught us in the classroom, we have been
able to use those in advancing the advertisement and marketing. This
has helped the management to run much more smoothly and has enabled us
to add on to the Shack. We are now renting out skimboards and using our
business knowledge to run an online ebay business.
The
Kayak Shack is one of the few high school operated businesses in the
state of Oregon. All the students working are working to earn what is
called 'DECA credits' , to later help send them to the DECA state
conference.
